Lev Zakopets was born on February 27, 1961 in Lviv into a family of musicians.
He graduated with distinction from Lviv State Music College, class of violin under guidance of Kobyschan Z.P. and Yurfa E.E., and class of oboe under guidance of Zakopets M.M.
In 1985 he graduated from Lviv State Conservatoire in the class of oboe under guidance of Professor Tsayts V.B.
Professional background: in 1983 – 1997 worked as a soloist in the orchestra of Opera Studio at Lviv State Music Academy. Since 1987 he has been working at Solomiya Krushelnytska Lviv Specialized Music Boarding-School, in 2000 – 2009 he held the position of the head of Winds and Percussion Instruments Department.
In 1997 he founded and headed “METRONOM” Children Charity Fund providing support to talented young musicians in Ukraine. Fund has supported and implemented a number of music projects in Ukraine and abroad.
In 1999 – 2015, Lev Zakopets worked at Lysenko Lviv National Music Academy, Chair of Winds and Percussion Instruments, class of oboe (2003 got title of the Chair Docent). During his work at the Music Academy 17 students under his guidance have won international competitions in Ukraine, Poland, Germany and Belarus.
In 1999, he created a pioneer Ukrainian – Polish Chamber Orchestra in Ukraine on occasion of Pope John Paul II visit to Ukraine, the orchestra took part in the program official celebrations.
Educator’s achievements: more than 75 students of Lev Zakopets have become winners of international competitions held in Ukraine, Belarus, Poland, Czech Republic, France and Germany.
He has been carrying out research activity, taking part in various seminars, conferences in Ukraine and other European countries. He is an initiator and manager of numerous international arts projects.
As a methodology and theory expert, he has written dozens of transcriptions for oboe published by “Musical Ukraine” editorial house in 1996 and 1998. His articles were published in music journals in Ukraine in 2002, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015. He is a co-author of the textbook “Methods of oboe playing” (2002).
He is also an author of “100 etudes for oboe” and “Flute Tunes” (“Sopilkovi Nagravannia”). His works were also published in music magazines in Poland, Germany and Ukraine.
Lev Zakopets actively participates in different ensembles and orchestras as an oboe player.
He is a jury member of Republican and International competitions (1994, 1995, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015).
He is awarded with Certificates of Recognition and Diplomas from the Ministry of Culture and Arts of Ukraine, the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Poland “For the Outstanding Educator’s Proficiency”.
In 2012 he was awarded with the Honorary title of the Honored Figure of the Arts in Ukraine.
In 2015 he was awarded with the Diploma of Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine “For the significant contribution to the national arts development and the long-term committed work”
